Broody again!

Recommended Posts

I know it is the breed - honestly this hen is hardly ever not broody :wall: , she certainly isn't living up to her name 'Princess Layer'! She is a lemon cuckoo (emphasis on the cuckoo) Pekin and she is as mad as a box of frogs! I can't even remember what her eggs looked like it has been so long. She irritates the hell out of the other girls with her endless bok bok boking all the time. So once again she is in chicken prison to hopefully break this session of broodiness. She is in the guinea pig run on pebbles. I'm hoping that after 24hr or so in there she will give up  I would love to give her some eggs but my husband would have a fit, as I still have two lovely 9 week cockerels I need to re-home, he grumbles every time he passes them  I daren't hatch out more until they have gone to new homes (my planned home fell through - so if anyone wants 1 or 2 silver pencilled wyandotte bantie boys let me know!).

If she is still broody after her "prison session" and you really want to get her back to normal, get a bucket of cold water, and dip her bum in it, hold her there for about 5 seconds, then let her go. I gaurentee she won't be quick to go back to the nesting box :D

Note: This doesn't hurt the animal, if anything you are doing good.
