Noisy hens...

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions for dealing with noisy hens?

2 of my 3 girls have become very vocal recently - much complaining whenever they think there's someone about...

I have a separate netting run area on the lawn, and putting them in there tends to shut them up. However, if they are put back in the run earlier than they think they should be...mucho complaining again.

They get a treat of corn and something else green or wriggly every evening - and I've done the walking past them without treats, so they don't associate people with food all the time. So I don't think it's treat-related...(I could be wrong)

Dodo makes the most noise and can be quite relentless in her complaining....

I try and ignore it, but my OH is losing his rag over it...I don't know what to do!

Help! :(

This might sound mean or maybe bizarre, but for some reason my chickens have taken against garden implements. If they get noisy I take the rake and level out their run which has a thick layer of elephant grass, this gets rid of all the dips they snuggle into. I then leave the rake propped up against the run. They're then very busy digging putting things back in order. That's this weeks remedy anyway. :D

My Girls get noisy on Sunday mornings when the neighbours are trying to sleep in! We go out and ask them to BE QUIET!

They also start shouting in the afternoons and I thought it was because a cat had walked across the end of the garden, but today I went to investigate and I could hear the chickens down the road shouting, so I think mine were answering them. So far my neighbours have been very good, and Ive not had any complaints, to be honest the resident magpies make more noise than my chickens, so that would be my answer if any one did say anything! :)
