Ruby not laying but not broody. Why?

Recommended Posts

Ruby my Welsummer (14 months) has always been a good layer but since we went came back from holiday she has not been laying. we came back on 12 July, and she did not lay for a week, then laid 3 eggs in 4 days then has not laid since. She appears totally healthy, was wormed with Flubenvet in about April May, and all poos look normal.

Should I be worried? :anxious:

They tend to stop laying when in moult. All of their energy goes into growing and replacing feathers. Extra protein in her diet may speed up the process a little but expect a good few weeks of no eggs if she is moulting.

A few of mine are moulting at the moment, those not moulting are trying their hand at being broody - my egg count is right down at the moment
