I have a cube with a standard run that is on a concrete base. It is covered with a clear tarp and in the heavy rain we have been having the front has also been covered with polythene to try to keep the rain off. The rain just pours off the tarp landing on the concrete base and seems to soak into the aubiose in the run. I have just cleared all the aubiose out of the run for the second time this week as it was soaked and smelly :( I am running out of ideas to try to keep the run dry. :wall:

I tried using wood chip but that seemed no better, I was thinking of try rubber chips as a last resort.

Right when I had a plastic cover on my cube run I folded up the edge of the plastic in a sloping pattern and had a bucket under the end where it drained down to. It was held on with bungees which secured the folded plastic. It worked :D

On the worse weather side which was in place all winter I took it down to the ground and beyond the slabs held out with some bricks on it so when the rain ran down it ran into the ground not the slabs. I had to place the cube and run about a foot or two from the edge of the slabs to do it.

I also found that by not cleaning the debris from under the skirt of the run it acted as a water barrier when it got compacted after a month or two which helped with run off water. guess you could try with earth or sand.

Plumbing for chicks
