Groovychook
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a far superior wormer to Drontal? I've purchased Drontal from on line suppliers for a year or two, but realised that the cats were due to be dosed imminently the other day. Thought it would save me a few days if I bought from the vets and was offered Milbemax instead. I was shocked at the price difference- over £15 for three cats! Is it a more effective wormer than Drontal? If not- think I'll go back to buying on line!
Chucky Mama
It's not significantly more effective than Drontal. The advantage is that Milbemax is a smaller tablet and so easier to give to cats (in theory ). The disadvantage is that it is prescription only and so can only be bought from your vet (or from a veterinary pharmacist with a prescription obtained from your vet). Groovychook
Thanks for that Chucky Mama Our cats aren't too bad at taking tablets (famous last words!!), so I think we'll go back to using Drontal next time. I feel bad about taking business away from my lovely vet but I can't justify spending so much more when there isn't a significant difference in efficacy! Chucky Mama
I understand, I think that if you are going into the vets for vaccinations and can get the wormer at the time it is fine. It is however a bit of a pain, and expensive to have to book a consultation just for wormers. Vets don't do this my choice, their hands are tied by legislation. craftyhunnypie
Our Poppycat had Milbemax very recently. She now has quite bad diorrhea (spelling?) & we are away with her in our caravan! She & us are coping well enough - she does go as normal on her litter tray, but when she goes, it's not very nice for her...& us. We have taken her off any wet food for the time being & she is just having purina dry food & fresh water. I am presuming it is a side effect of the wormer. She also had her booster at the same time - poor love. It must be strong stuff. Emma.x
