A belated thank you...

Recommended Posts

Thank you to all that replied to my questions about introducing new chickens to my existing two at the beginning of August.

I got my new two girls a White Sussex and a Blue Caulder that weekend beginning of August and did as Bevmatt said. I put my two older girls in the outside run and put the two new ones in the inside run. At first the two older ones made soooooo much noise I took them out of the outer run and free ranged them for the remainder of the day. I then put them all together at night into the Cube and low and behold a peaceful night was had. The next day when I let them all out they had kind of made friends, with the older two keeping a close eye of the new two not overstepping the mark! They have all settled in nicely with only a little feather pulling from older girls but now next to nothing.

I was so pleased with the result I told my friend, who had two hens and was wanting to add to her brood, that adding to them was "absolutely fine, no trouble", how bad did i feel when she got her two new hens and her older two fought so badly with them that they drew blood and one of the new two had her little wattle pecked so badly. She now has to keep the two pairs separate as they just do not tolerate each other. Will they ever get on?

Thanks again everyone
