We have a classic eglu, and have had no issues really until now. I came home today and noticed an egg by the front door of the run, so well away from the eglu. The other chicken hadnt laid either. They do miss the odd day now and again, but not often. So im wondering if the two incidents are connected at all.

 

Why would she lay outside of the nest? Its all clean and everything so cant be that.

It's one of those things that does happen now and then. My hens are restricted to a run by netting and before now I have found eggs just lying on the grass.

 

Maybe they just didn't get to the nest box in time

hope its just that. Weather has been bad today, but they are dry, as we have 2 tarps over them.

I think they sometimes get caught short.

i now know what caused it. Been out to check them properly and ensure cover is all secure etc... and the door was shut. So its been closed since yesterday afternoon.

 

Opps. I feel really bad now, because they must have been in the run all night.
