alyb
Edna the Leghorn Bantam went broody mid August so I thought I'd get some hatching eggs off ebay. And yesterday was day 21. To be honest I didn't think anything would hatch - to late in the year/ebay eggs/posties chucking the parcel about - the eggs came from Wales/Edna would get fed up and stop being broody but ................ I think there's three little chicks a strippey one/a yellow one and a black one . Have only caught a quick glimpse of them. I'm well chuffed. The eggs were supposed to be mixed pure breed bantams (Black Pekin/Buff Sussex/Dominique/Frizzle/Brown Leghorn and a Welsummer). Have put some chick crumb and water in the broody coop, but Ednas still stuck fast on the nest - hopefully she'll show the little ones where to eat and drink? Sorry for the rambling post - this is the first time I've hatched any eggs and (how sad is this ) I can't stop having a wee smile to myself. Now I have to think positively that they will all grow up to be girlies - I can keep one cockerel tho
Egluntyne
She will show them how to eat and drink over the next day or so. They will be fine in the meantime as they still have the reserves of the yolk sac to draw upon.

alyb
Enda has twins - the little yellow bum belonged the the stripey head - so there's a Dominique (the black one) and the little stripey yellow one - which is a bit of a mystery cause it doesn't look like any of the chick pictures of the rest of the breeds they are supposed to be. But to be honest it doesn't really matter what breed it is. They have been out for food and water so all is well. I'll leave the other 4 eggs until Sunday which is day 25 just in case. Can't decide if its the eggs that are cheeping or if its the little ones Ednas being a great mum - very protective
