Cinnamon
Have any of you read this book by Liz Gilbert? I finished it a few weeks back,& am looking forward to seeing the movie soon, starring wonderful Julia Roberts. Its the true story of a 40 something American woman who goes through a nasty divorce. Feeling that she is in need of a total fresh start she travels to Italy where she eats, India where she prays & Bali where she finds love. I liked the book, although it is in places horribly self indulgent & rather Americanised. I must admit to not being all that into the pray section, which is just not my cup of tea,but apart from that its well worth a read & I hope the movie is well worth a watch. Mail readers may have noticed that Liz Jones, herself a divorced lady of around the same age,did the same trip & has written about it in this weeks issues...very funny it was too. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I got given a copy with rave reviews but haven't read it yet as I was worried it was eye-rollingly meh new age chick-lit. That said, I'm starting to think that sort of thing would be right up my alley these days. As my baby brain has shrunk (I've got five weeks til i give birth now) my ability to read 'proper' (s"Ooops, word censored!"by) novels has gone. It's a nightly story from Pippi Longstocking for me these days! Tolstoy who?! Love La Roberts though so film may be worth a look out! And love the idea of good food being bigged up rather than dieting in a chick flick.
Cinnamon
She put on a stone for the 'eat' part of the movie,I read yesterday...good for her! It is all a bit meh (I know exactly what you mean),but if you can get over that there are some great scenes & its really very interesting to read. Do read it before you see the movie,if you can!
