the bradley bunch
hi, the little unwanted chook (approx 18 weeks old) we re-homed last weekend, has got a problem with what i believe to be her ear. if you can see in the photo there is a clumb of black dried blood on her ear lobe, and i've had a good look and there is a little flap of skin that she hasn't got on the other ear, with a tiny wound inside i feel really guilty that i didn't notice it earlier, but it must have just blended in with her black feathers. i suspect she came to us with the injury as it looks like it's already began to heal inside the flap and the dried blood looks like it's been there a while...it's so hard i have no idea how i'm going to get it off. she doesn't mind me looking at it or touching it, so doesn't seem in any pain with it. but obviously i'd like to get it sorted because i'm worried about it being so close to her ear. there is no discharge, and the area is dry apart from the tiny wound inside the flap where it's a bit wet (but clear), and looks like it's trying to heal. other than this she seems fine & healthy, her eyes are bright and she's eating, drinking and is responsive. i'm thinking the best thing to do is use a Violet or Iodine spray on it, but please take a look at the photo and see what you think.... thanks guys
Redwing
As its a little damp I would be inclined to use wound powder rather than spray just to dry it up a bit It should heal ok either way though
Egluntyne
I'd go for wound powder too ... or just leave it alone.
