Chicken shack
I have been told that chickens can hold thier own against cats however while I have been on holiday with my sisters my OH has been looking after my chooks. He let them out to free range but a big black cat was after them and OH was convinced that Rhoda would have been attacked if he hadn't intervened and he now thinks it would be dangerouse to let them out. What do Omleteers think?
Old Speckled Hen
Mine see off the dog,let alone a cat BUT there are some very aggressive cats around. If you have seen one bother the hens then get a super soaker and leave it armed by the back door. Give pussy a dose every time you see him and he'll soon stop coming into your garden. Calamity Jane
I agree with previous post, a quick squirt with a water pistol/soaker should do the trick. It doesnt hurt them, but they soon get the message to leave well alone. Good luck.
Olly
I think even a very aggressive cat would be taken aback by the sight of a chicken flapping its wings and bok-bokking loudly - my tabby (weight around 15lbs, a keen hunter and has a lot of fights) turned tail and ran when this happened to him. However the water-pistol suggestion is a good one, to deter the cat from hanging around.
