WIR -roof advice. Wire underneath the solid roof material?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

We have been looking at roofing materials today for when OH ready to do the roof on the WIR hes started to make.

Probably going to have onduline or similar material seen at B&Q. The big question hubby has asked is if he should wire underneath the roofing material or do you think that would be overkill ? If it were just using the clear pcv type roofing I would be inclinded to say yes but not sure with this other material.

What has everyone else done. ??? thanks. xx

I don't know if there's a difference between onduline and corruline but I have the latter on my aviary and on a couple of houses/runs. I've found that if it doesn't sag at all if it's supported with a panel of weldmesh and it has the extra advantage of being more predator proof.

I spent a while browsing around on here, and we came to the conclusion that we would weld-mesh the roof-frame before putting the onduline on. just seemed to be what most people recommended, and also a case of extra security - we decided it would be awful to build the thing and then find that Mr. Fox had managed to sneak in through a gap somewhere high up we might have missed.

ours is now wired.... but unfortunately the roof is still leaning against the garage where we moved it several weeks ago because we need to get some muscle in to move it round to where the WIR is. in the meantime, we have been putting the bunnies in the WIR during the day at the weekends - they love it, a whole 12 foot square to bounce about in, rather than their standard eglu run!

sigh... wish we could get ours finished, think I need to borrow your husband dizzy deb!
