Hi

 

Sorry, I haven't been on for a while as thankfully my chicken keeping has been running nice and smoothly!

 

I have been travelling to get my chicken supplies about once a month and I have decided I might try and find a supplier to deliver to save me some time.

 

I am presently using Small holder free range layer mash whch they seem quite happy with but I am open to change if anyone can reccomend a good feed that can be delivered.

 

All suggestions welcome....

Newland Grange poultry - www.newlandgrange.co.uk do all the Garvo range by mail order I believe. Mine love the mash! You would have to check on the price of delivery.

Manor farm granaries sell online, I think they are something to do with Dodson & Horrell, that's the brand of food they sell.

 

I bought grower's pellets and corn off them last year and I believe they have an offer on at the moment, 10% off.

The postage does seem expensive, as much as another sack of food! Maybe I should just double up when I go shopping in the car!

 

What is considered the best food? Is Smallholders good stuff? I have just used it because it was what is available. My local pet store (a chain) sells their own brand but only in pellets. I dont mind introducing them to pellets but I want to make sure they get a good quality feed.

it might be worth ringing round horse feed shops that are localish?

 

i get my horse feed delivered free and they bring poultry food too!

Many horse-feed suppliers will also supply chicken feed, and a lot of them deliver. Take a look at yell.co.uk, search for "feed merchants" in "Bicester". The first couple on the list say that they deliver.

We use Fancy Feed Range - and really like it. I used to use a local merchants own brand ut the birds seem to do better on the Fancy Feed Range. It is slightly more expensive but I think it is money worth spending. I think it would be a comparable price to the small holders range.

Postage is very expensive for feed as the couriers charge a fortune for 20kgs bags - about £7 - £8. So definately worth buying a few bags at a time in the car.
