You could replace the window with a mesh panel that will help ventilation. You could then put a shutter on it to help keep the elements out in the thick of winter.

 

Additional vent holes can be drilled above the door.

 

Make sure the perches can be removed this helps when keeping ontop of redmite. Also some people use cardboard boxes as nesting boxes. These can just be completely replaced when they get a bit yucky. Or use a cat carrier. This also means you have to worry less about where you place the perches and nest boxes as the nest boxes will be covered so no problems with droppings.

 

If you were going all out you could replace the felt on the roof with onduline. Again this makes it a little less redmite friendly.
