Successful first free ranging!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I just wanted to tell everyone that our first free ranging together went really well. There was some chasing from Top Chicken Hera, and the Araucana, Selene, looks like she's going to be bottom of the pack receiving most of the aggression, but there was no real pecking or feather pulling. All in all I'm really happy with how it went and I hope it continues to work this well when we're ready to put them in the run, undivided, together. I'll give it a few more days and then I'll consider taking out the run divider.

I'm pretty sure that this is all down to following the advice about integration here, so this is by way of a thank you to everyone.

I think I worry more about my chickens at the moment than anything else. I've been thinking that perhaps I should have just left things the way that they were with my two pretty happy and settled hens, and having the two houses and divided run has made everything more difficult, but this success has reassured me that everything is going to be fine. :)
