Yellow yolk like poo

Recommended Posts

One of my girls has been under the weather for about a week but she is about to start laying so put it down to a soft shell. She has been eating and drinking over the weekend but the last couple of days is really sorry for herself and in the coup all morning but goes out later in the day, will eat some treats etc but not with the gusto like the others. I'm off to the vets tonight but I've noticed some poo stains on the bedding and floor of the run which are bright yellow like the colour of a yolk. Does anyone know what this could mean? I'm fairly sure they are hers as it is where she has been sitting in the nest box. It's not frothy like the Blackhead or Histamonosis poo on the website but I suppose it could have dried out during the day. I thought she might be egg bound but can't feel any egg. She was wormed with the others mid July with Flubenvent and they don't free range. Fingers crossed she will be ok but I'm a bit worried the vets don't know that much about chickens as their normal 'eggspert' is on holiday.

Are you certain that she is not laying soft eggs, and that they are being eaten? Often the first few eggs can be soft shelled, and they do make them off colour. The fact that her appetite has increased could indicate that she is laying.

always a good idea to consult a vet though, if you are uncertain.
