Devon Traditional Breed Centre

Recommended Posts

We went to visit today and was very suprised to see it had closed down! :(

We got our chickens from there and every time we visited it seemed to be doing really well, even in the winter the cafe was busy.

Anyone know what happened?

I found this on the "This is Devon" website

The Devonshire Traditional Breed Centre in Crediton has closed.

It will reopen next spring with new owners and at a site on the outskirts of Dorchester.

Nick and Tracey Roach, have run the business — which included livestock, a farm and gift shop, cafe and children's play area — for the past 10 years.

The family have been tenant farmers at Wellparks and Downes Home Farm since 1830 but are now moving for a number of reasons.

It's a shame, I really liked it there. Dorchester is not too far but not close enough just to pop out on a whim for a coffee and purchase of a couple of chooks  And their bacon and egg butties were the BEST :boohoo:

Purely selfishly I'm thrilled they are moving!!! I've had a yearning to go there for an age, but could never quite fit in the drive. Dorchester is MUCH more manageable!!

Although I guess if the owners are changing there is nothing to say it will be as good as I've heard? Does anyone know anymore?

We too are gutted because we only found it the week before it shut. The lady in the shop just said the owners had decided to give it up and at that point the future of the birds was unknown. I was delighted to see they are being re-homed and luckily for us, we live 19 miles from Dorchester. Our caravan is near Exeter hence we found the original place near Crediton.

I hope Dorchester proves to be just as nice a venue because we loved walking around Crediton.
