Donna C
Hi everyone, Took buttercup to breeder and she found some very hard to find feather mites. They were sucking all the goodness out of her. We lost buttercup but have got company for bluebel with little rose. If we'd sprayed some £1.99 pigeon spray on her bum this could have been avoided so please lookout for the little blitters on their bums Trying to be positive rose is settling in o.k. Having let them free-range together i eventually chased rose back into coop, phew Now they are just standing still together. don't know if good or bad. If anyone has any advice on sttling in or coaxing back into run i'm all ears. Tried worms, thought she'd follow bluebel in I know i need patience but you know what it's like when they're new. I guess i need patience.

Donna C
Thats what it's called "johnsons pigeon insect spray". i hadn't heard of it or feather mites til breeder showed them to me on the bum of my poorly girl. They are relly really really tiny but they took my littke buttercup . She said to check monthly on their bums and if see any, spry this on them. Got to be better than what we've had to deal with today
Egluntyne
This product probaby isn't licences for use on Poultry, and so an egg withdrawal period will apply.

sandyhas3chucks
that is just normal mite stuff then, feather(shaft mite) is not visible and permithren (sp) oesn't work on it. I did wonder if that was what it was
Donna C
The breeder did show them to me on the bird although very hard to see and not happy that vet didn't notice earlier. I dust the girls and wipe down eglu daily with anti-bac spray and weekly with poultry sheild. Is there anything more i should/could do. REALLY can't cope with loosing anymore ladies having to put down one in april, 2 im august and another this weekend. Am i doing things wrong
Egluntyne
No, you are not doing anything wrong, you've just been unlucky. Unfortunately, many of these mites come from the wild birds, and there is nowt you can do about it.
Donna C
thats what the breeder said ( little devils). Fingers crossed then. Only problem at the mo is getting her back in run, trying to get her used to sound of worms rattling at the moment. I normaly let them out every day but now it's only when there's two of us to herd her in
