Unsecure chicken perches

This is probably going to sound like a really stupid question, but I will be a complete beginner to chicken keeping when I finally get my hens, but I've looked in all the books etc. and none of them answer this question! Do I put the food and water in the hen house with the hens at night or don't they need food and water overnight? Please someone humour me and give me a reply!

Only keep the food and water in the run. They don't need water or food in the coop.

 

In the winter feed them some mixed corn in the afternoon (just a bit) that will keep them warm and fed over the long winter nights.

Not a silly question at all As said, they don't need anything overnight.

Thank you for your replies. Now I know! Why don't they put such basic things in the books? Maybe all the novice chicken keepers should get together and write a book - questions novice chicken keepers ask! - and the answers of course!
