can't bring myself to buy eggs

Recommended Posts

:shameonu:

We've not had to buy eggs for 2 years - even when we've not had any I have just refused to buy and and 'done without' But that was when my little star Korma was with us as she hardly every missed until she got ill. Even in the depths of last winter she always came through for us. (having said that she probably laid herself into an early grave!)

Well it seems that Tikka has now gone on strike, and as the new girls are nowhere near ready to lay, we've had no eggs for over a week!!! So I think I will have to put eggs on the shopping list this weekend  - Free range of course!!!

Does anyone else feel really miffed when have to 'buy' eggs?

I hadnt bought any eggs for nearly three years until last week when I had to buy half a

dozen and they were truly awful. The yolks were very pale and there was no taste.

Of my eight hens five are three years old and dont lay very often. It seems a long time since

I had a egg glut, you dont realise just how time flys by it only seems a short while ago they all

laying every day.

It's now apparent why Tikka has stopped laying.....she is heading for an extremely heavy moult!!!! This morning the WIR is covered in black feathers. She did it last year at this time, within a week she lost all but a couple of tail feathers!!!! :o:o:o I've never seen anything so drastic, so looks like she will have a new outfit for Christmas!!!!:lol::lol:

I had to buy eggs last winter, I resisted for a long time but in the end we needed eggs

This year with four new girls (hybrids) and two old girls I am hoping that they will lay enough to keep us in eggs this winter but it is not looking hopeful as the last two days we have had four eggs in total, during the summer we had four or five eggs a day so the darker mornings and evenings are already taking their toll.
