First eggs - yippee.

Recommended Posts

After just over 5 weeks with us we have eggs!!! It's a bit silly I know but I'm thrilled to bits. We have two Goldline and I bought them at auction (naughty I know) and I didn't know how old they were so expected a wait. Must admit I'd be very careful about the auction route again as both girls had major lice infestations that have taken ages to clear and they needed worming. However, they're happy little free-rangers now and I've finally been rewarded too.

There were two eggs this afternoon but as hubby didn't check this morning when he let them out (he'd given up) I think one may have arrived yesterday afternoon as I have a suspicion that only Phyllis is doing the honours as her comb is much redder than Pimmy's but I can't wait until the morning to see if there's one or two.

Chickens are just so much fun - I wish I'd discovered them years ago. I definitely want more, and a WIR but need time to acclimatise my patient other half to the idea...

Sorry to go on but I'm just so thrilled...

Thanks Chrissie - I know it's not just me who's infatuated!!! And, as suspected, it is only Phyllis in production. She's had a very noisy morning running in and out of the Eglu and has just produced egg no. 3. She seems a little 'shell-shocked' but she'll get used to it.

Can't bring myself to think of using an egg yet though! Sad I know but I feel the need to admire her hard work...
