vetty82
Our 6 hens (which as of last week is now 5 as one was found dead at the bottom of the cube steps), seem to have taken a dislike to laying eggs. We haven't had one egg since the beginning of August. Our 3rd child, Amber was born on 4th August and it seems they maybe jealous, despite DH being the primary carer of the chickens. Coincidence? Or should I be looking into something a bit further? They are all omlet chickens that we had delivered in March 2009. Your advice is gratefully received Yvette
Egluntyne
Have they been wormed? If not, I would give them a course of Flubenvet. Worms can halt their laying. Are they free ranging and laying eggs under a shrub in the garden? I'd cut out all treats and keep them confined to their run in the morning so that all they eat is pellets, and then let them out in the afternoon. This will ensure that they get the optimal nutrition for egg laying. However, if they are pure breeds, they will be downing tools for the winter, and you won't see eggs from them until Spring.
