I'm a little new to this too and read the same conflicting information somewhere. However I can say that my three Silkie girlies layed all summer - one egg each about every other day. They then stopped at the beginning of September when they had a good molt, laid again one egg each every day for a bit, then stopped about a week ago. My conclusion is that they lay when they are good and ready /feel like it.

I didn't get hens for eggs. I just wanted them because I so love the noises that they make :D but their eggs are good too. They may be small but they are rich and we have had the most delicious omlets and scrambled-eggs-on-toast suppers.

Silkies will lay throughout the winter- when they aren't being broody, which going by my Muppet is most of the time,so you still won't get too many eggs  Muppet is the only one of my lot laying at the moemnt, the others are all finishing a moult. I'm hoarding her 4 little eggs per week as though they were gold
