Chicken shack
Can anyone tell me why my Rhode Island Red who is the smallest lays ex-large eggs and my Bluebell and Jasmin who are bigger lay small eggs? Is this normal?
beach chick
it could be to do with their age? They start off small, when they're getting into the habit of laying and then I think that as they get older their eggs get bigger, and then they may lay less frequently but will still produce large eggs. that's my theory anway - but Ditto the giant buff Orp has always laid tiny eggs, so who knows?! Egluntyne
It can be breed related too. So long as the hens are well, I shouldn't worry.
Chicken shack
Oh I am not worried just curios . They were all supposed to be point of lay when I got them in August and Rhoda laid the very next day. Jasmin and Bluebell have been laying for about two weeks and Lazy Daisy is plain lazy no eggs yet. They are all well and have been wormed, red mite treated and lice treated along with all the other potions and treats available to us. The are cleaned out once a week and their nesting box more often as they insist on sleeping in there They free range every day as OH works down in the garage and can keep an eye on them. Spoilt rotton.
