hippy chick Posted November 2, 2010 Share Posted November 2, 2010 I am in the process of introducing my male rabbit to his new wife. Since I had him castrated he has become much more calmer. My problem is his new wife. She is being very aggressive towards him and he seems absolutely terrified of her. I have tried them in a pen together and all they seem to do is chase each other and a bit of fur pulling. The female has mounted my bunny and he just sat there. When she got off him he ran to his little hidey hole and refused to come out. I was kinda hoping that so long as my bunny was done she wouldn't need it. If have have to get her done then I will but I'm trying to avoid it. Then introduce on a neutral territory, I use the bathroom as there will be no bunny smells at all and i can intervein quickly if needed. You will always get some bullying and fighting but hopefully it will settle, Never put the neutered bunny into the dominate bunnys home it will be bullied twice as much. Animalmad Posted November 4, 2010 Share Posted November 4, 2010 I recently received advice when I bonded my rabbits, which was extremely successful. They were in cages next to each other. Every day I would then put them together in a neutral run, with a box or crate in it so they can get away from each other. If either is a bit rough just move them away from each other. When you put them back in their cages, swap which cage they go in, so they get used to the smell of each other. Start with 30 minutes then very gradually increase the amount of time they spend together and swap their cages every day. After they have spent several whole days together and they are getting on extremely well, only then allow them to stay together full time. I was told to be patient and not rush things as it could wreck the bonding completely. Some rabbits never get on together though. I took my rabbit to the rescue centre for an initial meeting with her potential boyfriend as if they fought immediately, then it was probable it would never work. If your rabbits do bond, then never separate them, if one needs to go to the vets, then take them both in the crate. Also, it is recommended that female rabbits are spayed to prevent cancer. hippy chick Posted November 8, 2010 Author Share Posted November 8, 2010 Success The bunnies have been dating for the past few days They had their first date in the rabbit pen but Bill was terrified of her. Their second date went better they were in the kitchen on a very slippery floor. Then they were in the conservatory having cuddles and being brushed. Then I put them outside for a run around and they seemed to click. He has mounted her and they both spend ages grooming each other. So last night I put them both in the same hutch together, they sat side by side all snuggled up.
