Unsecure chicken perches

all the girls bar one (poor Trumpet) pile into the nesting box at night. i poo pick it every morning which involves removing a lot of the straw.

 

it's much easier to remove poo from sawdust (it's not dusty -it's chicken friendly sawdust) so i was wondering if i could put sawdust in the nesting box.

 

given that some of them still have quite featherless bums, i wondered if it might be too scratchy (and of course my hens' comfort comes before my poo picking concerns).

 

any thoughts?

I use Aubiose in the nest boxes. It's nice and soft, not dusty and is absorbant to make poo picking a breeze. You never end up with any wet bits.

Karlotta , How do you stop it from fallling through the Vents in the base of the nest box of the cube?

I just put a bit of ikea drawer liner in the bottom and that keeps it in fine!
