patsylabrador
I want to recommend this book by Stephen Clarke. I may have already mentioned it but I'm a slow reader and it's taken me ages to get to Bonaparte. It's not actually knocking the French, the author lives in Paris, so that would be a tad risky especially after the section I've just read about the revolution. However, he takes the history of France & Britain, which has not been very 'cordiale' and has little nuggets of information about how Britain has been a thorn in their side. It has some nice bits of historical gossip and gore to keep you reading. I've learnt lots of fascinating things and the book is helping to fill in some of those annoying gaps. If nothing else I can recommend it as an excellent Christmas present.
