sundayatwindsor
I got 6 new ex batts on Saturday. They are getting used to new routines. The first day my husband worked from home and put them to bed. I came home early tonight and had to put them to bed. Tomorrow I am worried because my husband and I can't get back before 5.30 it makes me feel sick thinking about them standing in the cold and dark. Does anyone have any tips of how to get them to go into their house independently. Thank you:)
Bramble
I had this problem with my ex-batts, tho after the first night they quickly worked out that they go to bed when it gets dark - maybe if you leave them to it tonight they'll get the message? Other Omleteers suggested putting a torch in the eglu so that they are attracted to the light at bedtime - mind got the hang of it before I had to resort to that, but I gather it works very well! Good luck and well done on adopting ex-batts, they are ace!!!!!!
Trougher
My ex-batts took about three days to learn the routine, for two nights I shooed them into the henhouse, and then the next night they put themselves to bed at dusk, and have been doing so ever since. I think they'd be ok until 5.30 anyway.
Powerlady
They will be fine, the torch idea works well, but my ex batties put themselves to bed from day 2 so they will soon get the hang of it
Chickybaby
I got some ex-bats a couple of weeks ago and they managed to find their bed by day 3 so I'm sure they'll work it out in their own time. My chickens don't start going to bed until about 5pm, takes them about 30 minutes to all get settled though, so I'm sure yours will be fine until 5.30pm.
