A few weeks ago, I posted a warning about the barefaced cheek Carpetright had when I was looking for some carpeting in walloping on pricy extras to take a quote for £240 worth of carpet up to a total fitted cost of £840.

 

Needless to say, I didn't do business with them. Instead, I found all the extras online (£130 for superior quality) and therefore only needed to get the carpet itself. This, then, is where the credit comes in. My wife and I traipsed around everywhere, looking for somewhere that sold carpet but didn't seem to be trying to take us for a ride. Finally, we found a small independent retailer in Guildford - E Owen & Son - whose answers appeared to be honest and straight, even when discussing their shortcomings, so we placed our order. A slight hiatus from a supplier meant they couldn't deliver when we'd arranged, but I found their handling of the situation to be spot on.

 

In short, I reckon we've found one of the seemingly rare retailers who earned the money we gave them. If anyone in the Guildford area needs carpet, I'd recommend you at least have a chat with them.

hear hear, and on the subject of floor coverings, we always go to Mr Jones of Crown Carpets so anyone in cheshire/merseyside area, they are excellent.

it's a shame more people don't try their local independant retailer first rather than going to big chains.

Here here, i recently bought a new range cooker, and i bought it from a local independant, i would even have paid extra rather than go to the awful huge national box shifter companys, as that is all they are, if you ask any of their staff about a product, all they do is read the box! I could do that!

My little independant was actually cheaper I had fantastic service and would, will and have reccomended them to anyone!
