catherinedon
I have had 3 of my girls since august and 4 I got a a couple of weeks ago. They are all at about the right age to lay. Well this morn WE HAVE an egg. I know you will all appreciate how exciting this was. I dont leave my girls out of the cube in the morn until about 8.20 (dont want to risk upsetting neighbours) they then spend all day pottering between their walk in run and outside exposed fenced off run but all take them selves off to bed at 4 So I thought that wasnt enough daylight hours for egg laying but was pleasntly surprised this morn. Who laid the egg though. Nelly the araucane who is black has been very noisy recently so had her checked at hatchery last week and they said she is a girl and may be about to lay if noisy. on the egg was a white feather and in the nesting box were white feathers and a grey one. (still cant believe she knew where to lay it). So the suspects are Nelly the araucane, Tess the light sussex who had white and grey feathers or Winegum the wyndotte who is white. The little faboulous egg is question is perfect, lovely hard shell. Colour cream with a very light green/blue hue. ?? Which amkes me think Nelly but what about thw white feathers. Also Tess has been sitting with her bum in the nesting box for weeks but it was layed further up the nesting box???? HELP

Snowy
Sounds like Nelly - araucanas lay a lovely light blue egg! One of the others was probably trying it out afterwards. Mine often do that, go and sit on each others eggs
chuckmum6
I would agree, araucana's eggs can change colour, getting darker as they get into the swing of laying. Do you have a pic or have you eaten it?
catherinedon
I do have lots of pics and also have eaten it and it was very yum indeed. Will put photos on when I figure out how to do it. I now think it was Nelly too. How many times have I checked today to see i f she has laid another
catherinedon
It was nelly as I saw her laying yest. she didnt lay yest morn but she did at about 1.30pm so amazing. I cant believe how perfect the eggs are. Is it coincidental that she started lying the morning after I had given them warm water to drink and again yest a couple of hours after warm water ??
