Can't stop bleeding comb - Help

Recommended Posts

Just found Jo with her comb bleeding - can't see exactly what she has done as there is quite a bit of blood running down her face. I've cleaned it, sprayed on purple spray and some vetinary wound powder but it's still dripping blood. I've brought her indoors to prevent the others from pecking at the blood but I don't know what to do now.

How long will it take for the bleeding to stop? I've dealt with damaged combs before but I don't remember this much blood!

It should be safe to clean it up a bit now as clotting starts on the inside. I am sure she will be fine. If it starts again, hold it gently between your thumb and forefinger for a minute or two.

We did also have some comb pecking on our two new girls when they were vulnerable in the nestbox. It drew a little blood, but no ill effects apart from Peggy's scraggly comb.

Bleeding has stopped. Cut out a cardboard disc with a slot for her comb so I could safely spray the purple spray without getting it in her eyes.

She is back in with the others now but I noticed that Alice seems to be going for Jo's comb despite the purple spray so I don't know if that's what did it in the first place or whether Alice likes the purple colour

Anyway they are all making their way off to bed now so hopefully it will be peaceful until the morning at least!
