Free range chickens/eggs... what's the definition?

Recommended Posts

I have no chickens at present but when we had them in the past we kept them completely free-range during the day and put 'to bed' at night. Due to the fox, I know now that I'd want a secure run for them.

Perhaps 2 or 3 hens in a Classic. Are the chickens/eggs still classed as 'free range'?

I don't know the exact definition but I heard that as long as hens have a decent amount of space to move around, eggs can be advertised as 'free-range'. Anyone know what's what with free range?

Funnily enough, I was having exactly this discussion with a friend yesterday ... Egluntyne's pointed you to the right advice above.

I don't generally sell mine, but if I do then I label them 'Garden Eggs from Happy Hens' and as I'm only selling to friends anyway, they know exactly how my chickens are kept.
