Margaret
I know this sound silly, but new chicken Audrey, seems so sad. Am I putting human traits on to her or is she really sad. Let me explain. All three new girls have settled in, bit of pecking but nothing serious, but weather is alfull and I work full time so havent seen much of them except for last week when I couldnt get to work and they seem fine, infact apart from being really flightly seems to be the bravest when it comes to eating and standing up to the original girls, but night time is really sad.Four naughty old girls get the nest box, new Mathilda, sleeps with head in nest box and bottom in cube and Maureen snuggles up to her, but Audrey...... sleep all alone in the far corner of the cube felt so sorry for her last night when I checked on them, she wont allow me to stoke her just shouts at me and walk into the WIR even if dark. What to do? leave her? seems ok but thought they would all snuggle to keep warm. Sorry for the ramble but feel sorry for her.
Mercedes55
I would feel the same, but I do think we are putting human traits on them. Our 4 ex batts all sit snuggled up in the nest of the Cube and our Araucana somehow manages to sit on top of them The other 3 new girls just sit on the perches and most nights it's been either the Welsummer or Favorelle on their own right in front of the open Cube door. We have now started closing the door as didn't think it was fair for one of them to act as a draft excluder
Margaret
Yes, I shut the door last night first time ever just so she was a little bit warmer.
Cinnamon
I wouldn't worry, she is probably just anti social. One of mine,Weed, won't even go into the Cube at night & insists on roosting outside in the walk in run, while the others are all snuggled up. Yes,even in the recent cold snap I have tried putting her in,but she just comes out again. Anti social or stupid - I can't decide which! Margaret
Thank you so much for the replies, will go with anti social then, a bit like my middle son when he was small. Must run in the family.
