Burtie14
You could try a saddle. https://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cat=Chicken+Keeping&sub=General&product_id=4663&product_name=Chicken+Saddle+Medium+Quilted+Waxed They're primarily to protect a hen from getting pecked, but it'd provide a bit of warmth too. Just need to make sure you do regularly check for mites and such like.
craftyhunnypie
A saddle would be better than any sort of jacket for hens. The BHWT don't advise using jumpers etc, even though we'd all love to put our hens in puffa jackets, hats & scarves. The best you can do to keep your chickens warm is to feed high energy foods before bedtime. Sweetcorn, mixed corn, wheat or oats. Or make them a warm porridge of warm water & their layers pellets. I also put some warm water in their drinkers in the morning & mid afternoon. Emma.x
NatalieC
Have a look at Sinead the ex-batt in the Daily Mail today, she has a lovely chickini! Perhaps they can publish the knitting pattern!
Chortle Chook
Elsewhere on this forum we were sensibly advised not to put jumpers etc. on our chickens as that will prevent or distort any growing feathers from coming through. To help my chickens keep warm each night I have been putting a dust sheet (the white fluffy kind bought cheaply from DIY stores), folded into quarters, over the top of their house. This seems to be acting like loft insullation making things warmer inside while still allowing for some ventilation. Certainly this morning when I poked my head right inside their house I couldn't see my breath whereas before I certainly could. It would be no good if it rains, but then the temperature should get a bit warmer if rain is in the offing. I do have to take the dust sheet in during the day to thaw it out.
