daxigirl
Evening all, just a query really for all you chickeny gurus out there, Paxo (no3 bird) who started laying in October has stopped, last egg 30 Dec, and I've now noticed that her normally red face is fairly pale and her comb is not as red as it was, no swelling. Lisa-Marie (no1 bird) started laying on Xmas day and has continued since. She is her normal chuckly self, eating and rumaging quite happily and still chasing the yellow legs about. Am I worrying unduly or is it something I should keep an eye on. Has she just had her beak put out of joint by LM starting to lay (there's no squabbling about the nest box), is she poorly, or is this normal as it's winter for her to stop? Oh and they were wormed with Flubenvet in October. Any ideas or thoughts gratefully read. Edited January 8, 2011 by Guest
Egghead68
Lots of hens stop laying over winter and their faces and head gear go paler when they are not in lay. If she were mine I would give her a basic health check and would keep an eye on her for a few days, just in case, but I wouldn't be unduly worried. Mollie333
The face will go paler when she isn't in lay, they also look anaemic if they have mites. Check for mites, if not, it will probably be the fact she isn't laying.
