fluffypigs
I have just found grain weevils in my chicken feed. I wondered if anyone else has any experience of this? The feed is in my kitchen cupboard ( well actually the cupboard under the stairs at the end of my kitchen) and I am rather concerned that they will spread to other parts of the kitchen - I don't want to find them on my plate when I am eating my pasta! I haven't had the feed in an airtight container but maybe the weevils would have been in the feed or on the feed bag before it came home anyway. Any thougths from all you experienced chicken pros? Gertie
Ugh! I had that happen to me not so long ago! It was tiny white bugs, no idea what they were. I posted on here in fact! I ditched the food in the storage bin & feeders & disinfected everything. & I have not had a problem since. I believe they may have been in the feed when I bought it. I've never seen any in my breakfast cereal. Phew!
fluffypigs
Hi Gertie What sort of storage bin have you got for your feed, I think I need to get one asap. Ellie
Gertie
Hiya I have one I got from the garden centre, it's a metal bin with a lid & clasps. It was sold for wild bird food storage but fits a sack of layers pellets perfectly. I keep the other food in large sweet tins & under the stairs inside in their sacks. You probably just got a bad batch. I was horrified when I saw the bugs. I cleaned everything with Jeyed fluid. Stinks but did the job!!
