White Stars and Corals, any coral close ups?

Recommended Posts

Everyone thought Snowy was a White Star but she's probably a Coral if she's laying cream eggs.

Has anyone got a close-up picture of a Coral so I can compare? Apparently White Stars have a finer head but mine looks to have a finer head.

I've been told the Corals are a newer version of White Stars bred to be a little more docile but apart from that are very similar.

How are they bred to be different? I'm very happy with my cream eggs. I'm just keen to learn more. :)

Snowy.... theeee... chicken.

Hmm, having re-checked the info/pics on your earlier thread I am chipping in with 'they look very similar to eggs we get from our blue girl, Clara, including the shape'. It is hard to tell in the picture but are the speckles on top or pitted and are they slightly pinky?

Although your Snowy looks very similar to our Snowy, our's ears are more pearly white like mummyhens' and she lays very white eggs with definite fat and thin ends.

The combs and wattles are likely to grow quite a bit still and change colour on all of your girls. Also some of our girls started to sit on the nest before starting to lay.

You may need to wait for the others to start laying before you can say for sure!

Fingers crossed for bluey/greeny eggs from Willow.

Anyway - they are gorgeous girlies - well done!

Thanks Poached Egg, I love them already. :D Having had a few eggs now and having seen only Snowy on the nest and only her snoozing above !eggcream! (I've seen the egg under her but she was standing over it) I really think it's her. Although I have no concrete evidence. ;) I've seen her in the nesting box most days... and when I go back out to check a little while later, she's off and there's an egg. I've not seen the other two do it.

Also, the place I bought her are selling White Stars and Corals, and the hybrids are kept in the same run.

So the difference between a White Star and Coral is just the egg colour, not breeding?

I got my Fenning White/ White Star from here

http://www.henhousepoultry.co.uk/

If you look at the Chickens for Sale page you'll see both Fenning Whites (another name for White Star) and Coral Nicks - you may be able to see which your Snowy is more like

Only now seeing this, thank you!

Edit: If I had to choose between the Fenning White and the Coral Nick on that website, it would be the Fenning White!:lol:
