cockerel noise, cube help?????

Recommended Posts

Hi

I too have a noisy cockerel who never what time it is and how dark it is in the morning, he CROWS!

I have my chickens in a self built hen house which is covered by old carpets to block the light out,but i think he must have his own light in his head or his alarm clock is set wrong

Good luck anyway

My Vorwerk crows at 4am even in the pitch black. I'm not sure covering up the cube helps much, unless the object of covering up is to muffle sound then I would use layers and layers of carpet, but yuk!!! when it rains

Remember at 4am it is deathly quiet and his crow will travel some distance.

We have an undercroft in the house where I have put a dog cage with a perch. Hubby snaffles him from the Cube before we go to bed and I pick him up at 8 am and return him to his hens before I let them out. He doesn't seem to mind and although we can hear him in the house...(it doesn't bother me, I just turn over and go back to sleep)...he cannot be heard outside.

If you have a few minutes have a look here

I use three layers of carpet draped over a Classic to muffle the noise of my boy....

I then have a black bin bag, split down the side, and tucked in under the carpet to keep it dry!! I have large cuts of wood to hold it in place. It allows air flow but means that there's no direct line for the sound to travel out the vents!!

I would guess it only reduces the sound by about 20%...but then Oscar doesn't have a particularly shrill crow thankfully!! :D With good double glazing, he's pretty hard to hear!!

I spent about a year blacking out the cube to help Phillip sleep in until the neighbours all said they liked to hear him! We do occasionally have crisis of confidence and bring him inside on a Saturday night so people can have a lie in.

Best solution is to have nice neighbours!
