poppy33
Have any of you got just one chicken, sadly we have just lost one of ours. We initially had the three girls together, one died last year from egg peritonitis and we found the second one who had died in her sleep inthe nest box that now just leaves our sussex, I am worried she will be lonely, she lives in an Eglu in a WIR and free ranges most days with a kitchen vist I dont really want to get any more chickens as we have had so much problems with rats that I have always said when these ones go I wont have anymore, but I worry about poor Hettie and wondered if anyone else has a lone chicken, she seems quite unaffected so far but Scarlet only died five days ago
mollyripkim
There was a thread on this recently and some people said their lone chick did very well with lots of interaction. Others said they got lonely and sad after a while so I guess it depends on their individual personality. Hope yours is ok.
gongladosh
I'm sure some hens will be ok on their own, but to me, I'd be temped to get replacements - hens are flock creatures so to keep them alone won't be the best approach for many. Perhaps a cat's required too to sort out the rats
