tracyann
Hi just wondered whether any of you are from Essex and if so whereabouts and can you give me some info as to where you got your chooks from? Have been quoted £15-20 for hybrids this morning and wondered whether that was about right? Thanks.

Olly
Hi TraceyAnn, I'm in beautiful Essex! I got my last ones from Kirsty at Hens4Homes, and I recommend her very highly, as have others on the forum. Think I paid between £12 and £18, it depends on the breed - the Heritage Skyline (blue eggs) was £18, the others were a bit cheaper. Take a look at her website here: http://www.freewebs.com/happy_hens/ - it shows current prices.
JPalmer
Hi, I am in Essex- Southend area. I have Polands only so I didn't get them in my area had to drive around to get them. I had it in my mind that was the breed for me and with that I had to really search for mine. I have been to Smileys and they have quite a few different breeds. I also get my Garvo from Rosehill which isn't too far and they have different kinds of chooks. Another place I know is near Messing / Layer Marney area it is a Farm Store and they have several different breeds as well. As you can see I drive around alot Glad to know there are more chook lovers in the area though
stoice
I've had girls from landbase poultry (The Landbase, Frating Road Ardleigh, Colchester CO7 7SU), hens4homes (Three Acres, The Downs, Bran End, Stebbing, Essex, CM6 3RJ), Essex Chickens (Smilers Farm, Pound Lane, North Benfleet, Wickford, Essex SS12 9JS) and my mum has had some from Upsons (Ivy Barns Farm Hatfield Peverel, Chelmsford, Essex, CM3 2JH). I get Garvo feed from Rosehill Hatchery, Creephedge Lane East Hanningfield Chelmsford, Essex CM3 8BP and they sell pure breed chickens, bedding and supplies. Chook-a-holic
Hey Tracyann, Am also in Essex... I have a sweet hybrid that I got from Smilers Farm in August from memory she was a tenner but was still quite young. The chap there was really helpful, very patient and answered all our questions (even 7yo DD who had ALOT of questions)! Also have phoned them to get advice since bringing her home. It is worth giving them a call & seeing what they have before you make the trip. Good luck )
Chicken shack
Hi just wondered whether any of you are from Essex and if so whereabouts and can you give me some info as to where you got your chooks from? Have been quoted £15-20 for hybrids this morning and wondered whether that was about right? Thanks. Hi tracyann I live in Ilford not a million miles from you. What type of set up do you have? I got my first 4 girls from smilers last August the cheepest was Rhoda @ £10 Bluebell and Light Sussex (Daisy) @ £20 and Jasmin @ £25. Sadly Daisy died a few months later. Not sure what was wrong with her she was ok one day and not the next. I got two Heretage Skylines two weeks ago from hens4homes @ £20 each. Pleased with both places. Rhoda lays the largest eggs and she was the cheepest, infact she laid from day 1.
