Minty_76
Hello everyone. I am getting my chickens and eglu in the spring but having read loads on the forum about hens being really noisy I'm worried that they will be too loud for my small garden! We have close neighbours so I'm nervous now! Is it just some hens that are loud or are they all?
LuckyChickenLover-
Hens are reasonably quiet comapred to cockerels, but some particular hens can still be very vocal! Not all hens are loud, but none of them are silent, either. It's just like humans, some are loud, and some are shy and quiet. I have one quiet chook, and one loud one (she loves to crow about the egg that she's just laid ) There are a couple of ways that you can quiet them down, eg. making the Eglu / run dark by covering it in a sheet. Then the chooks don't realise that it is morning yet so won't wake you and your neihbours up at the crack of dawn, but at the end of the day it's pretty much down to luck whether you get noisy girls or quiet ones. If you think that your neihbours might disagree with you keeping chickens, then you could always give them some delicious free range eggs They'll soon change their opinions. Minty_76
Well I think my immediate next door neighbours are ok about it but there are houses to the back of our garden too. I don't mind a nice bit of bok bok boking or egg laying announcements so I hope they just let us know and not the whole street!
