chicken bark
I don't know how you can tell. I was told with my Cayugas that ducks have a definite quack while drakes make a hissing sound. I was advised to gently shake my ducks up and down to see what noise they made. I presume the male will also have a tail feather that curls up. I only got ducks at the end of last Summer so I've lots to learn. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to help.

Jimbob
Have you managed to tell if you have got a boy or girl yet. I've got 2 Muscovy ducks. The best way to tell is by size difference but that's not easy if you only have 1. The males have much chunkier legs and bigger feet and are much bigger in size. They will also have more caruncling around their eyes/bill but that will depend on age as well. Mine don't usually like being touched or picked up or getting too close but they are both much friendlier at the moment due to it being breeding season. Think they think I'm a drake!! So if yours is behaving similar could be a girl. Have you got a photo of him/her. Jim
Meganymoo
Only got pictures of it as a duckling! we think its a boy but its the same size as the female but it is one of her offspring though and i dont think its fully grown yet! They do make different quakes which is hopeful!
