hi i have a sick chicken i suspect broken shell in her bits

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, i wonder if you can help, i have a poorly hen, she looked a bit sorry for herself yesterday, but seemed to be eating ok but without the usuall enthusiasm, she seemed to just stand there a lot and not move around. i came home today and she was in the roosting box, standing and a egg was laid but some of its shell was broken away, her egg laying tube, vagina or i dont know what its called, she kept almost pushing it out like she wanted to lay an egg, she did not have a lump which may be an unlaid egg, here botton/ bits seemed to have egg white coming out of it, i suspect she has some broken shell left in her bits, she is really lethargic and when i picked her up closed her eyes, i have her in a box in the house tonight in the hope she will pull through, but if there is anything i can do to prevent this happening again any advice would be appreciated. i have 4 other chickens but convinced the broken egg was my sick chick ill give you an update thanks alot

hello everyone thanks for your messages, i am gutted, i checked over her bedding this morning and there was what seemed to be left over yolk, she had managed to pass it, im no vet but sure it was a broken egg that caused the problem, and left some egg inside, i love my chickens and have been thinking of getting more in recent months, but worried about adding them to the crew of now 4 hens, i do not have a cockrell, any suggestions as if i add another 2 or 3 i want to do it quick before they settle into a foursome. thanks again you know how we feel :( i am not rushing to replace my lost hen, i was seriously wanting to add some new friends. thanks again regards
