So i've finally worn my oh down

Recommended Posts

I have wanted to add ducks to my menagerie(sp?) for ages and as the title says I have finally got the go ahead.

So i am looking for any advice on breeds. I really like runner ducks but wondered if they would be ok living with our geese. How many eggs are they likely to lay and would it be ok to keep 1 boy with 2 girls or would I need more girls to keep him happy. Any advice at all would be great. Thanks

Well done on talking him into it!

I've got 4 runners (3 girls and a boy) and so far that seems so far to be a nice ratio. I think they would be fine with geese. They seem hardy so I can't envisage a problem.

I usually get three eggs a day now (occasionally 2) which I think is pretty good.

Hi there,

We have 5 runners, 1 drake to the 4 ladies. We also have 4 geese, 2 of which are ganders. We tried them in the same enclosure and in the end had to move the geese out. The runner ducks insisted on invading the space where the momma goose had laid her eggs, causing all sorts of explosions from the geese crew. Ducks were often picked up by their wings and shaken, with Mr drake coming off worst. In the end, it was safer for the ducks, and more calm for the geese to keep them apart. Since then, our 2nd goose has started to lay, and the ducks are more content, with no further battles over the food trays either.
