Eggasperated
Was woken up by OH this morning who had found a house full of feathers when he let the girls out. Rushed down the garden in a panic in case something terrible had happened to find everyone happily scratching about. As far as I can see Carol, who is coming up to 2, appears to be losing feathers from the base of her back near her tail. She had a moult at the end of the year but the feathers in that area looked patchy and odd and never really grew back, at the beginning of the year I treated her for lice as she seemed to have something in that area and it's been clean ever since. So is Carol finally finishing her moult? She's certainly been grumpy enough recently. As one of my first girls she's certainly been a difficult introduction to chicken keeping and has consistently found ways to challenge me Now I shall have to see what happens next and hope that this is just a moult and Carol hasn't thought up some new way to frighten me . percy049
Our two rescued hens are loosing loads of feathers.... we weren't sure if it just moulting (as they havent have a proper one since we've got them) or just stress. maybe a combination of both
chicken bark
I've got a hen moulting at the moment. I'd been worried that it was lice or some other illness but she is fine in all other ways.
Eggasperated
Well Carol doesn't even have the excuse of being a rescue hen, just a very difficult Black Rock.
Dolly
Phew, was beginning to think it was just mine! Roxy is having a big moult too, to the point where yesterday she was preening herself and a tiny feather got stuck in her eye! She was madly shaking her head and scratching and luckily I saw it and grabbed her and got OH to remove it - bit worried about this happening again when we're not about though.... Anyone else had this happen?
