Unsecure chicken perches

Barry my elderly Bovans Nera is laying the most disgusting looking lashes. She has not laid a proper egg since early last summer and had stopped completely since about September. The last few weeks she has been laying a lash about once a week, but it really puts her under the weather and she will either stay in the nesting box all day, or come out all hunched and fluffed up. Does anyone have any suggestions for anything I can do to ease her discomfort. I am fairly sure it is all because she is an old hen, and that spring is making her body want to lay, but at the same time it is unable too! Any suggestions anyone please?

Keep her warm and feed her plenty of protein. It really does take it out of them. Ours only laid a few lashes, then stopped completly - that was that. Even our vet said it looked disgusting - then asked to keep it......
