Tweety
I bought some Frizzle hatching eggs on Monday from 3 different sources, hoping to put them in the incubator today once they had rested after their journey in the post. However, only one lot of 6 eggs has arrived yet - I have been turning them a couple of times a day and keeping them cool, so hope they are still viable. One lot of eggs was supposedly posted first class on Monday, and the other yesterday by special delivery, but no sign of either and I have heard nothing from either seller despite emailing them. Is it ok for me to wait a bit longer and see if the other eggs arrive, so that they can all go in the incy together, or will that be too late for the 6 I have ready and waiting? Any advice gratefully received.
Guest
I'm not certain but I did read somewhere that the eggs could be kept for 10 days after that hatch rate starts to drop. There will be someone along soon that knows better than me. Your special delivery ones should arrive today, it can be late afternoon before my postman gets here because he has to deliver the guaranteed by 9am and 12noon ones first. I hope they all arrive soon.
Tweety
Hi Lorna, thanks for that. Unfortunately, my postman has already delivered today and Special Delivery is guaranteed by 1pm next day, so they won't be here until tomorrow at the earliest. If they don't turn up tomorrow, I think I will just go ahead with the 6 I have got and see how it goes. The ones that have supposedly been in the post since Monday will probably not be in a condition worth waiting for anyway!
Redwing
I'd leave it till tomorrow as you say If the others arrive them in the morning then unwarp them and leave them to settle then put all of them in the incubator in the evening
Tweety
Thanks Redwing, I'll do as you suggest.
chick wiggle
Have they arrived today?
Tweety
Hi chick wiggle, no they have still not arrived. I heard from one of the sellers last night, and according to the royal mail tracking service, the eggs she sent me by special delivery were delivered and signed for on Friday morning! I don't know what is going on, I have not got them or signed for them. I have a horrible feeling that they, and the other missing eggs, have been delivered to a local private clinic which has the same name, but totally different postal address, as my house. I have rung them and am waiting to hear from them, though why they should sign for a special delivery parcel which is not addressed to them is beyond me! I decided to put the 8 eggs that did arrive safely last week into the incy yesterday, as I was worried about leaving it too long. If the hospital have got the others, and I can collect them today, could I put them in the incy today or would it be better just to stick with the 8 I have got in there? Guest
I personally can't see a problem with adding them to the incubator as they are only a day apart. I would make sure you have them clearly marked which ones are which though. I read a post on another website about someone who had eggs 1 week apart in the same incubator. I however am only a beginner. Good luck, I'd report the issue with Royal Mail.
Tweety
The eggs were at the hospital and I have just been to collect them! Thankfully, they are all unbroken and appear to be in good condition, so I am going to put them in the incy with the others and hope for the best. The Royal Mail will be hearing from me! A word of warning so you know this is coming because this made me furious when I was on the phone to them with a similar problem recorded delivery items being signed for but not by me or at my address. Mine sadly were never found. Royal Mail will NOT contact you to update you on the situation if this is only the FIRST time you have reported it. They will give you a date and if it happens again after that date you have to report it again and then they will follow it up! Horriffic customer services. Redwing
As the new lot were late in going in to the inccy (was it just one day later?) stop turning them all and raise the humidity at 19 days, it doesnt matter if the first lot of eggs go one day late with less humidity, it wont cause them any problems, its far more likely to cause more problems if you raise the humidity a day early for the later eggs hope that makes sense!!!! Tweety
Yes, there is just 24 hours between the 2 lots going into the incy Redwing, and thanks for the advice which makes perfect sense! As these are all bantam eggs, do I do as you advise on day 16?
Redwing
I wouldnt personally, I breed bantams and most have hatched around day 21. I'd stick with day 19, too high humidity too soon will affect the eggs more than a bit later, ditto the turning, I've had eggs hatch at 30% humidity with the auto turning still on, they definitely thrive more on neglect than obsession
Tweety
Ok, thanks again for all the advice.
Tweety
I found the second lot of missing eggs on my doorstep this morning at 7.30, which leads me to suspect that they had been delivered to one of my neighbours, as my post never arrives before midday. It seems they were posted on the 14th March, and I have no idea how long they were in transit etc. Is it worth putting them in the incy with the others, or will that cause problems when I have to stop turning the eggs and increase humidity for hatching the others? Redwing
I'd do it, just keep the humidity on the low-ish side after the original day 19 - around 50% or even a little less its worth a try
Tweety
Thanks again, Redwing. I don't know how I would manage without you! I'll put them in this evening and keep my fingers crossed. If only one or two chicks hatch, it will have been worth trying.
