bigmommasally
OH & I are currently going through an assessment with our LA to become approved as Shared Carers. As shared carers we would offer weekend respite care to a disabled child. Our social worker has asked us to research disabilites on the net, which is fine and I have spent most of yesterday reading & bookmarking different sites but there is so much out there I wondered if anyone on here with experience of children's disbaility (learning or physical) could point me in the direction of any sites that they have found useful. Thanks
sari
Mencap is a good place to start, and if you offer support to a girl with Rett Syndrome, their website is brilliant. I was keyworker to two girls with Rett's, and got a uge amount of support from the Society..good luck, and let me know how you get on...this is something my OH and I have thought about, as he doesn't feel he is able to foster ( would get too attached )
Chicken Licken
If you google special needs then some of the links will be useful and give you information on a range of conditions. Probably worth reading more about Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, ADD, ASC as a starter. I have a curriculum access booklet that gives descriptions of lots of conditions that could be handy (I'm a special needs teacher). I would be happy to email it to you if you PM me with your contact details.
