Pecking!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello

All of a sudden my 2 black marran hens are pecking my pekin bantam! I can't believe it, they have been together for 1 year now, and my bantam is getting a bold area. I think they could have mites, but I am not sure, 1 of my marran hens also has a pointed lump around her tail feathers. I have put mite powder on them both, how do I know if they have mites for sure? I am getting really worried, especially about my small bantam- she can't really defend her self!

Thank you!

Hi, sorry to hear your little pekin is being picked on like this. It's really horrible to see & you have my sympathies. My araucana bullies the little sablepoots and I can't have them around each other at all. They have separate housing and the araucana is confined to a fenced off area of the garden during the day. She shares this with 3 others so she's not on her own. It's not ideal but it must be so stressful to be picked on all the time.

There are other things you can try such as anti peck spray and "bits" you fit to the beaks of the bully but for me it is easier just to keep them apart.

Hope you find a solution soon. Alli xx

Thank you for replying, I will try the anti feather pecking spray. I am letting my bantam (Marjarey) out when I am in the garden, to give her a bit of space, but I can't separate them due to space issues!!!!!

Should my maran hens gland be uncovered? She keeps pecking it?
