mrs chook
I went up to see the chooks this morning and have noticed one has a droopy back end - she almost looks like a running duck I have picked her up and cannot see an egg stuck at all - she hasn't laid for probably a year or so, but otherwise has always been perfectly healthy and top girl. She is eating ok and apart from looking like she is straining to create something seems vocal, perky and as per usual. Under her vent feels a bit fluidy to me. I have been poorly myself for a week, so haven't been up to them myself until today. Anyone with experience of this? Not sure whether to worm her or if it's something more serious
Chucky Mama
It doesn't sound like a worm issue. If she feels a bit fluid filled she may well have peritonitis (or a tumour) - it is best to get her checked out by a vet.
mrs chook
Thanks for advice - took her to vets and it was egg peritonitis. As I said she hasn't laid an egg for well over a year. She has been put to sleep as the vet thought it was a long shot - poor lil cassie Glad to know that she is out of any pain or misery now though
Chucky Mama
Sorry to hear that well done for getting prompt attention for her as they can go downhill quite quickly with it.
